McMaster University Midwifery Education Program is seeking two assistant sessional instructors for a
level 2 course: Clinical Skills for Midwifery Practice (MIDWIF 3G06) in the Fall term of 2023.
Course Description
Clinical Skills for Midwifery Practice (CSMP) is a pre-clinical course that prepares students for clinical
placements. The course includes lectures, discussion, workshops, demonstrations, and laboratory
practice of fundamental skills for midwifery practice. This course combines theoretical aspects with
hands-on clinical labs and incorporates some limited observational clinical opportunities. The course
involves 8 hours of classroom time each week (combination of lecture/tutorial and lab), running 8:30-
12:30 on Wednesdays and Thursdays.
Role Responsibilities
This role requires that you participate in the CSMP sessions and carry out assigned tasks associated with
the course. Duties may include:
• Prepare for, attend and teach during the lecture and laboratory sessions;
• Prepare and deliver short lectures;
• Facilitate large and small group discussions;
• Prepare and deliver demonstrations of clinical skills;
• Provide guidance and feedback to students during clinical skills laboratory sessions;
• Attend course meetings (e.g., preparation for teaching);
• Be available to meet with and advise students, throughout the semester, as required;
• Assess students during an objective clinical skills exam;
• Read, grade and evaluate student papers and assignments; and
• Carry out assigned tasks associated with the course, as requested by the Course
Coordinator or Assistant Dean.
Qualifications:
The successful applicant will be a Registered Midwife with a minimum of 5 years of
relevant clinical experience. They should hold a master’s degree in a relevant field. Experience teaching
in the Ontario Midwifery Education is an asset.
